Understanding Employment Testing and Validation Research

This 1-day seminar is focuses on employment testing and validation research, and is catered to HR professionals with staffing, talent management, and recruiting responsibilities , as well as to lawyers who advise on testing matters. The seminar describes employment testing best practices, with particular emphasis on scenarios where tests have adverse impact and must be defended and validated according to the Uniform Guidelines. The seminar reviews what a test is, describe various technical authorities available to evaluate the quality of validity research, and describe the process for how a test would be challenged. A detailed presentation of different validation strategies will be presented, as will a section on different selection tools (e.g., cognitive tests, physical tests, interviews, personality tests, education and experience requirements, etc.) that are often job related and useful to organizations. The seminar concludes with a review of case studies where DCI staff were able to successfully defend tests in the legal context.
